THE FACING HEAD COINS OF: LUCANIA, METAPONTUM |
The facing heads of Metapontum feature a portrait of Demeter in the obverse, and an ear of barley in the reverse. Two renditions of Demeter are featured below. The earlier is rather harsh, the second plump and bland, more in keeping with Demeter’s character as a goddess of prosperity.
The dating follows Historia Numorum Italy.
